Judy Kay Edmundson Medina 1948 - 2009

Judy Medina PhotosJudy Medina, wife of Roland Medina, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at her home in Irving following a 14 year battle with cancer. Judy early helped the Hospital District association become viable by serving in many different capacities. Judy was awarded the Volunteer of the Year award from the City of Irving in 2006 for her tireless efforts on behalf of our association.

Judy was born June 29, 1948 in Kingsville, Texas to Raymond and Evelyn Edmundson. After graduating from high school in Premont, Texas, she attended Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas and University of Texas A&M University in Kingsville, Texas (formerly Texas A&I). Judy was then employed with Texas Employment Commission in Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex from 1974 until 1982. After 26 years with Irving ISD as a Secretary and Buyer, she retired in 2007. Judy was a member of the Irving Women of Rotary, Irving Lyric Stage League, Irving Heritage Society and attended Bible Study Fellowship in Irving. Texas. Judy was preceded in death by her brother, Ronald Ray Edmundson of Atlanta, Georgia.

Judy Medina receives 2006 Volunteer AwardJudy battled a long fight with ovarian cancer since August, 1995 with a very strong positive attitude. She wishes to thank all her friends and family for their cards, flowers, food, compassion, support, and the prayers spread for her all over the world. Also to her doctor, Dr. Alan Munoz and his staff who provided excellent care through all her treatment. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Roland Medina of 38 years; son, Ty, daughter-in-law, Joycelyn, and grandson, Josh of Litchfield Park, Arizona; parents, Raymond and Evelyn Edmundson of Premont, Texas; stepsons, Mark Medina (Sandra) of Denver, Colorado and Todd Medina (Jackie) of Houston, Texas; stepdaughters, Melanie Gumbert (Jim) of Katy, Texas, Roselle Baldwin (Dennis) of Houston, Texas, and Stefanie Medina of California; grandchildren, Alex, Jimmy, Sam & Michael Gumbert of Katy, Texas, Kelsey, Dante, and Teddy Medina of Katy, Texas, Mead and Blair Baldwin of Houston, Texas, and Lauren, Isabelle & Anise Medina of Houston, Texas; brothers-in-law, David Medina of San Antonio, Texas and Arnold Medina of Corpus Christi; sisters-in-law, Faye Edmundson of Lawrenceville, Georgia, Sylvia McGee (John) of Morgan Hill, California; Blanche Flores (Romeo) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Irene Medina of Corpus Christi, Texas, Norma Medina Giles (Sanford) of Chicago, Illinois and Martha Medina of Corpus Christi; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncle.

George Robert Edwin 1936-2009

Our good neighbor and long time resident of the hospital district, George Edwin passed away Thursday morning November 20, 2009. Our prayers have been with both George and Velma during this difficult time.

George Edwin A registered architect, Mr. Edwin was a graduate of the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Architecture degree. He was a member of American Institute of Architecture, Texas Society of Architecture, and International Conference of Building Officials, as well as Rotary International. His achievements in architecture have brought him recognition with Design Merit Awards from Dallas Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, a Design Award from Texas Planners Association, and Certificates of Distinguished Service from Texas African American Historical Organization and Texas Historical Commission.

Mr. Edwin was past president of the Irving Heritage Society and a dedicated volunteer for the society. He was responsible for many of the historical markers getting placed throughout the city. He also was first chairman of the Museum Board and vice chairman of the Irving Community Development Corporation. Many agree that he was an expert on the history of Irving. Along with history, he loved music, art and books.
