Danny Elms: The best mechanic in the area is Lopez Auto Service on Rock Island next to Farmer Boy's. I have dealt with Robby Lopez and his Dad for more than 20 years and they are reliable, honest, and reasonable, and service virtually all makes of autos. I would recommend them to my Granny.

Bill Holcomb: Ron Hewitt at 812 Lane is the owner of his father’s garage (Hewitt’s Garage) on Maple in Dallas. His father started the business in the 1940s and now Ron owns it. He has done some major engine work on our Chevy truck, replaced the AC system on it, and several jobs on our Camry. We know several people over town that have used Ron for years. While he does not specialize in GM, I think his experience is broad enough to fix most things. He is honest, dependable, and does a good job.

Bob and Linda Wempa: The best mechanic we have ever had in Irving is LINKS Auto at 313 North Beltline Rd. It's a little hole in the wall, but this guy is great and gets to you as soon as possible. We have never had to wait long for excellent service. The owner Wendell Link is fair in his prices and you couldn't ask for a better mechanic. He and his assistant Richie do an excellent service. Rosanne Lewis: Firestone has technicians who are ASE certified in GM, Ford, Crysler, etc.; Rex at the Irving Mall location is very good.

Carpet:

Danny Elms: Gerald Carver is a fellow church member and friend and has been in the carpet and flooring business for 25 years or so. He is a great guy to do business with and has done many installations throughout the metroplex (including my house). Jerry's business is here in Irving and his number is 972.791.0034. Bill Herod: I have used Plymouth Park Carpets at least 3 times. They do good work at a reasonable price.

Linda and Bob Wempa METROPLEX CARPET CLEANING.......Jim has always provided good service and when he's finished your carpet is in good shape.

Maids & Cleaners

Mark Murray: I have a wonderful maid! Her name is Maria Swift. Cell number is (469)583-1776. Very trustworthy. Don't have any reservations about leaving her alone in my home.

Susan Rohe: Francesca Funk referred me to Rosa Minerva (214- 597- 4173) recently. She came a couple of weeks ago with two helpers and I could NOT have been MORE PLEASED. They even pulled my area rugs back and swept under them - something that I considered unusual based on prior experience with housekeepers !! The house looked wonderful for my holiday company --

Francesca Funk: I can heartily recommend Gilda Rixner and Victoria Griffin for house cleanings and general help around the house. These two ladies are members of my church and recently helped me clean up and move books out of my home office, which had water damage from a slab leak. Stone and Brick work

Dog Grooming

Francesca Funk: Our favorite dog groomers are at The Groom Shop behind the Story Road Animal Hospital on Story and Pioneer. They use all-natural shampoos and other products, which we like better than the synthetic chemical products. They're also very nice about quick nail trims in-between groomings. The price seems comparable to Pet Smart.
Economy Dog Wash: We recently came across Groom & Zoom self-service dog wash next to Buena Vista Animal Clinic on N. Story & Walnut Hill (972-252-7908). They have individual cubicles with high-standing dog wash tubs, and you feed a little machine tokens and select "shampoo" (sudsy water) or "rinse" or blow dry, etc. It's the same principle as the self-serve car washes.

I used it after taking a muddy walk with my two dogs, and I was able to wash and clean them for $6 worth of tokens, and leave the mud and dog hair in the tub. I recommend bringing a couple of your own towels, though.

Furniture Repair

Jeff is a former industrial arts teacher with about 40 years in the antique furniture restoration and repair business. His shop is on Briery Road just south of Conflans and east of Belt Line. He also builds custom furniture for interior decorators. Jeff is a good friend of former Lane Street residents Jim and Margaret Young. have had a couple of my cherry wood dining chairs repaired, both with broken or cracked legs. The last time was 2 years ago, so I don’t have any recent information.
