Dear Neighbor:

Welcome to the neighborhood.  I hope you will pleased to know that we have a crime watch program in effect.  We encourage each home owner to play a role in that program.  Certainly, you are not expected to be a police officer.

Your first priority is to know your neighbors.  This includes the three homes directly across the street from you, the two homes to either side and the three homes behind you.  You should know their names, addresses and phone numbers.  You should advise each other concerning your daily routine -- your work schedule, school schedule, etc. -- and when you will be away for several days.

Second, you should be alert in reporting suspicious activity.  The most common activities would be someone going door-to-door, and especially if they are going to the rear of the home. Someone waiting or loitering in front of a house may be trying to see if there is any activity.  Make notes of their description including sex, race, age, height, weight and clothing.  Suspicious vehicles would be those moving slowly and repeating their course, those parked for a period of time especially at an unusual hour, and certainly those being loaded with valuables from one of your neighbors homes.  Note the description of these vehicles -- license number, color, make, body style and anything else you might notice.

Third would be to make sure your own home is secure. There are many things to be mentioned in this area that I can't cover now.  I'm sure you already know many of them, but I if you would like more information, please let me know.  In the meantime, become acquainted with your neighbors, watch the homes mentioned above.  And, if you see anything suspicious, call the police at 972-721-2661, or 911 if it is an emergency.

Neighborhood Watch Captains

These captains are associated with the Irving Neighborhood Watch program.  Each captain is responsible for the streets listed with his/her name.    The IHDNA supports this program and and is always looking for volunteers to serve as Block Coordinators.  E-mail Bill Herod if you can serve in any way.
