1.                  6:33pm Meeting called to order by President, Gerald Farris

2.                  Motion to approve minutes of March 26, 2008 meeting by Jerrold Johnson and second by Jan Bemis.

3.                  Treasure Report – delivered by President, Gerald Farris reported balance of $3,829.21, and reported that we collected $150 in dues at the block party. Estimated block party costs are $1,000.00 – there are still some receipts that have not been turned in. Motion to approve by Marion Guthery and second by Bill Holcomb.

4.                  General Announcements:

a.     Several members of the association including Gerald Farris attended the Round Table meeting at the City of Irving. The meeting was on Water Conservation and Going Green.

b.     Marian Guthery spoke on Carter Blood Care.  The Irving Donor Center is located at 3557 N. Beltline Rd. Irving, TX 75062, they are located on Beltline & Northgate next to the Tom Thumb. The IHDNA donor number is: SPON039707. It was brought to our attention to service the North Texas area it requires 800 units of blood per day, and one unit saves three lives! Currently the donor council in Irving is seeking volunteers, if you are interested, or know anyone who is, please contact Marian. Also, Congratulations to Marian on receiving her two-gallon pin!

c.     On behalf of IHDNA, Jan Bemis presented “A Picture is Worth A Thousand Words” Award to Jerrold Johnson for his on-going role as IHDNA photographer through the years. Thank you Jerrold!

d.     Gerald Farris gave a Newsletter Meeting update. Several volunteers met in the month of April to discuss the newsletter: Dianne Cartwright, Gerald Farris, Amanda Nichols, Amy Nelson, Leslie Hurst, Judy Medina and Jan Bemis. It was discussed that the issues surrounding getting the newsletter out on a specific schedule had to do with the manner in which content was delivered for publication. Articles need to be submitted in full and formatted accordingly.

e.     Dianne Cartwright gave an update on the 500 Flags that were ordered for Independence Day. They are scheduled to arrive on June 16th.

 

 

5.                  Committee Updates:

a.     Amy Nelson and the social committee are working on plans for an Independence Day celebration. It will most likely be held on the Sunday before Independence Day (June 29th) and be held at Three-Fountains Park on Grauwyler.  Additionally the committee is working on a Wine Tasting Event that was donated by Judy Yeager.  The date for the wine tasting is Saturday, August 23rd at 5:30pm at Tony’s Wine Warehouse in Dallas.

b.     Gerald Farris wants to appoint a “nominating committee” in August to nominate board members and officers for next year. This year we are going to lose some of the board members and officers who have held positions on the board.

6.                  Jerrold Johnson won the door prize, which was a Go Green Care Package that included a t-shirt, light bulb and box of recycle bags! Congratulations Jerrold!

7.                  The Guest Speaker of the evening was Karen Sidall from the City of Irving, and she spoke on “Texas Smartscape” – Low Maintenance Landscaping.

8.                  Next meeting’s (August) guest speaker will be someone from Irving Cares.
